Another season is confirmed for Ladysmith-filmed science fiction comedy series Resident Alien.

In a press release Tuesday, June 18, it was announced the TV show starring Alan Tudyk has been renewed for a fourth season. Based on a Dark Horse comic book, the series follows an alien sent to Earth to wipe out the human race, taking on the form of Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle. He eventually develops an affinity for his friends and works to protect them.

Seasons 1 through 3 were filmed in Ladysmith, which is standing in for the fictional town of Patience, Colo.

In an e-mail, Joan Miller, Vancouver Island North Film Commission executive director, told the News Bulletin the schedule is not yet known as the show is still on hiatus. However, she said "it is reasonable to assume they will be back at some point filming in Ladysmith as it is a key location playing ... the mountain town of Patience."

"Resident Alien has been a great series to work with," added Miller. "The impact has been significant for the surrounding region which provides accommodation and services. The Town of Ladysmith I would think also benefits from film-induced tourism."

A date for Resident Alien's Season 4 premiere has not been revealed. The show will move from the Syfy network to USA Network, the press release noted.
